For this Coach Spotlight, I bring you one of the most accomplished coaches in girls flag football, Matt Hernandez.

Coach Hernandez is the head coach of the Alonso Ravens in Tampa, Florida. He also serves as an assistant coach with the U.S. Women's National Team as the sport prepares to make its Olympic debut in 2028.

At the high school level, Hernandez is a four-time Florida state championship head coach. This past season, he reached another major career milestone by earning his 250th win, moving him into third place all-time in wins in girls high school flag football.

But his success has not stopped at the state level.

Hernandez is also a two-time girls high school flag football national champion. Alonso most recently captured its second national championship on June 28 with a 21-19 victory over Robinson High School. Robinson had an opportunity to tie the game late, but a failed two-point conversion sealed the championship for Alonso.

Coach Hernandez is also heavily involved in the youth flag football game, where he coaches his daughter and the Pirate Bay Krewe. Last year, the team won a youth flag football national championship at Disney with a convincing 26-6 victory.

What stands out most about Coach Hernandez is his ability to win regardless of the format.

High school 7v7. College-style 7v7. Olympic-style 5v5. Youth flag football.

The format may change, but the results remain the same.

Coach Hernandez has proven time and time again that wherever the game takes him, he finds a way to win.
